Painting in Venice

“The quality of the light in Venice is quite unique and never fails to inspire me to paint whatever’s happening at any moment in time. There’s no substitute for painting plein-air when the church bells are ringing in the background & the gondoliers are shouting across the water to each other – occasionally breaking into song.
The subject matter for painting in Venice is endless; wherever you turn there’s water and sparkling light dancing on the ripples left by the boats.
Even rainy days are magical; atmospheric & bustling with a colourful array of umbrellas adding bursts of colour. I particularly love the reflections the rain makes on the Piazzatta on a wet day. Venice is surely a painter’s paradise.”
